Ever want the convenience of carrying an important document on your cell phone? Beam It Up Scotty might be the answer. The service boasts that users can transfer any kind of file–including pictures, music, videos and documents–from a PC or Mac to a mobile phone. Here’s how it works: upload the file to the Beam It Up website, compress it if you want to reduce download time and enter your mobile number. Within seconds, you should receive a SMS/text message with a download link to your cell phone. You use the link to download the file to your phone. Audio and video files cannot exceed 5 minutes and users are limited to 10 uploads per day. There’s no charge to use the service, although your phone provider may charge you for the file transfer, depending on the terms of your contract. The company behind the site, construktiv GmbH of Bremen, Germany, reports the application works with most modern cell phones.
